All About Ginger
I was born and raised in a suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina, and in 2003, I moved more than four hours away to attend East Carolina University as a first-generation college student. Like many graduates, I explored several career paths before discovering my passion for education. As a certified Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course instructor through the North Carolina Motorcycle Safety Education Program, I taught motorcycle safety for 12 years. Through that experience, I developed a passion for teaching and supporting adult learners.
In 2014, I joined ECU’s Department of Biology, where I discovered how much I enjoyed working with students. Working alongside academic advisors and undergraduate students inspired me to pursue a career in academic advising. Motivated by that passion, I enrolled in graduate school while working full time and raising my family, earning a Master of Arts in Education in Adult Education with a graduate certificate in Student Affairs in Higher Education. My graduate work focused on the unique challenges faced by student parents in higher education—a topic I understood firsthand while balancing graduate school, full-time employment, and raising young children. As an academic advisor, I am passionate about helping students navigate their college experience, overcome challenges, and achieve their educational and career goals.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and making memories together, especially at Walt Disney World. I am also deeply committed to public education advocacy and lactation support advocacy. I enjoy continuing to learn about child development, particularly as it relates to disabilities such as dyslexia and ADHD, so that I can better understand, support, and advocate for children and families.
