All About Sam
In my role, I get to do a little bit of everything. I manage our department websites and social media, work with faculty and staff to share department news and opportunities, and help oversee our Learning Assistants, Biology Promoters, and Biology Living-Learning Community (LLC). One of my favorite parts of my job is working with students and finding ways to help them feel more connected, engaged, and involved. I love being able to support students, build community, and help create opportunities that make their experience in the Department of Biology even more meaningful.
I was born and raised in Craven County, North Carolina, and as a second-generation ECU alumna, my heart has always belonged to Pirate Nation and Eastern North Carolina. Working at ECU is a dream I never realized I had until my senior year of college. During my four years at ECU, I was involved in the Student Government Association (SGA), serving in several roles and ultimately finishing my time as Director of Operations. I loved bringing my background in parliamentary procedure to SGA and having the opportunity to make a difference in the community that I call home. Before returning to ECU, I worked in state politics, where I gained experience in campaign operations and finance. That experience taught me a great deal about communication, organization, and the behind-the-scenes work required to keep things running smoothly.
Outside of work, I enjoy serving at my church here in Greenville, watching football, going to the gym, fishing, and going on walks. I love staying active, spending time outdoors, and finding ways to stay connected to the Greenville community. Whether I am cheering on the Pirates, enjoying time outside, or volunteering with my church and community, I am happiest when I am surrounded by people and doing something that allows me to give back.
