Biology faculty lead research team awarded $1.5M grant to study watershed resiliency

Dr. Ariane Peralta is leading an interdisciplinary research team that was awarded a $1.5 million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation. Ariane along with co-principal investigator Dr. Enrique Reyes and the team will be investigating how environmental changes like sea level rise can influence the effect of agricultural pollution on watersheds. Ariane said one of the main focuses of the study will be predicting how increased soil salinization caused by sea level rise can lead to increased nutrient runoff into surface waters due to reduced nitrogen cycling by soil microbes.
