Blackbeard takes to the seas

Blackbeard, ECU’s acoustic wave glider, is being used as part of an effort to determine the migratory pathways of southern flounder. 110 flounder were tagged with acoustic tags in Albermarle and Core Sounds, and Blackbeard has been sailing the seas off the coast of North Carolina to detect these fishes and help identify where they might spawn. To date, three tagged fishes have been located – two in Raleigh Bay, and one south of Cape Lookout in deeper water. Read more here.
