Laboratory of Patrick Horn, Ph.D.

Interested in plants? Bio-products? Genetic engineering? How enzymes work? Applications for improving agriculture in NC?

Research in the Horn lab aims to understand the roles of lipids or “plant-based oils” in plant growth and development, in response to dynamic environmental conditions, and utilize this knowledge to engineer healthier plants for environmental and human health.

Our lab is always seeking enthusiastic undergraduate researchers, at all experience levels, that want to contribute to making new discoveries! Undergrad researchers will work on one of the core project areas and assist with growing and maintaining plants, generating genetically engineered plants and cell cultures, collecting and analyzing biochemical data, as well as maintaining the lab. Computational-focused projects are also available.

Interested students should send an email briefly describing their background and why they are interested in conducting research to Patrick Horn, hornp18@ecu.edu. For more information on our lab and positions you can also visit the Horn Lab website.
