Donation in memory of Biology Professor Jim Smith secures equipment to support training in biotechnology

The Department of Biology has recently acquired a nanodrop spectrophotometer due to the generosity of a donation from Dr. Susan Smith in honor of her late husband, Dr. Jim Smith. Dr. Jim Smith was a leader in the development of undergraduate and graduate programs in biochemistry and biotechnology in the Department of Biology at ECU. The nanodrop spectrophotometer is an exciting addition to our teaching labs as it will allow our instructors to provide hands on experiences with a vital piece of equipment that will enhance the competitiveness of our students for careers in biotechnology, biopharma and biochemistry.
