Lifetime and Five-Year Achievement Awards for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity – and – Scholarship of Engagement Award

It is my pleasure and honor to announce the recipients of the ECU Lifetime and Five-Year Achievement Awards for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity and the Scholarship of Engagement Award.
Lifetime Achievement Award
- Roger A. Rulifson, Professor, Department of Biology, Thomas Harriot College of Arts & Sciences; and Senior Scientist, Institute for Coastal Science and Policy
Five-Year Achievement Awards
- Thomas Herron, Associate Professor, Department of English, Thomas Harriot College of Arts & Sciences
- Baohong Zhang, Associate Professor, Department of Biology, Thomas Harriot College of Arts & Sciences
Scholarship of Engagement Award
- Rebecca J. Dumlao, Associate Professor, School of Communication, College of Fine Arts & Communication Recipients of the Achievement for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity Awards are recognized for the originality and excellence of their research and creative activities. The lifetime achievement award recognizes accomplishments made across the entire span of a professional career. The Scholarship of Engagement Award recognizes achievement in the scholarship of engagement and a sustained commitment to partnered scholarly endeavors with communities.
All recipients were nominated by their peers in acknowledgement of their achievements and recommended by the Faculty Senate Academic Awards Committee. Each recipient will receive a cash award and will conduct a special public seminar to showcase their research during Research and Creative Achievement Week, April 8-12, 2013. The ECU community, family, friends and general public are invited and encouraged to attend these open presentations.
Congratulations to Drs Rulifson, Herron, Zhang and Dumlao for their exceptional accomplishments. Please join with me today in recognizing and supporting them at the award seminars in April.
